Dressmaking and Hat-Making Workshop

Building on decades-long experience, the Barrandov dressmaking and hat-making workshops maintain a superb standard
of quality for the manufacture of film costumes and historical costumes. We specialize in highly sophisticated commissions, which require working from scratch – from designing the patterns down to manufacturing the costume to the last detail,
all at the highest quality. We are one of only a handful of remaining workshops which still employ traditional techniques
in the creation of dresses and hats.

Our workshops are regularly booked to full capacity, and it is therefore advisable to place orders for the manufacture of costumes several weeks or even months ahead of time. The price depends on the choice and volume of the fabric, the ornateness of the detail, the application of hand-sewing, and the time and skills needed. Our master tailors and milliners have produced a vast number of costumes for major film productions – some of the recent projects include: Three Brothers, Masaryk, Lída Baarová, A Royal Affair, Journey to the Christmas Star, Habermann’s Mill, Normal: The Düsseldorf Ripper, In the Shadow, Wilson City, etc. Alongside film productions, the Barrandov workshops also make costumes for exhibition projects. The supreme skill of our dressmakers and hat-makers has added colour to a number of exhibitions presented at various historical sites. These include for example The Karlštejn Treasure – Culture at the Imperial Court of Charles IV at Karlštejn Castle (2016), The House of Pernštejn and their Time at the Salm Palace, Prague (2012), the Time Exhibition in Šternberk (2014), The Second Life of Charles IV at the Charles University, Prague (2016), permanent exhibition of the Municipal Museum in Týn nad Vltavou (2015), the Golden Lane at Prague Castle, etc.
